Positive Moving Protection Plans
Understanding Moving Protection
Take a moment to learn about our moving protection options.
Full Value Protection vs. Moving Insurance
Positive’s Full Value Protection is included in your moving quote and provides coverage if your belongings are lost or damaged during the move. With this plan, items that can be repaired will be fixed, and items that cannot be repaired will be replaced or compensated for—up to the amount you declare*. Our goal is to make things right if the unexpected happens.
It’s important to note that Full Value Protection is not the same as moving insurance. Unlike insurance, you don’t need to prove negligence on our part to receive compensation. Instead, we accept responsibility for your claim within the limits of the protection plan.
Traditional moving insurance, such as coverage through your homeowner’s policy, is a separate legal contract with terms that vary by provider. For that type of coverage, you’ll want to speak directly with your insurance company.
How Does Positive’s Full Value Protection Work?
Positive includes Basic Full Value Protection in every initial quote. The coverage amount is based on the weight of your shipment, calculated at $6 per pound.
For example, if your shipment weighs 6,800 lbs, your protection amount would be 6,800 × $6 = $40,800.
Before we begin loading your belongings, you’ll also have the option to increase your coverage amount for added peace of mind.
IMPORTANT: Complete the High Value Inventory Form
If you choose our Full Value Protection, you’ll need to list any items in your shipment valued at $100 or more per pound (such as artwork, jewelry, antiques, collectibles, electronics, designer clothing, or high-end furniture) on the High Value Inventory Form.
For example, a pair of earrings worth $800 but weighing less than a pound would not be fully covered if they were lost and not listed on the form. However, if they are declared on the form, you could receive reimbursement up to their full replacement value.
Additional Protection Options and Programs
Beyond the basic Full Value Protection, we offer extra protection options and specialized programs that can be added to your moving quote. Availability may vary, so be sure to check with your move coordinator to confirm which options apply to your move.
Minimum Liability Valuation Option
If you choose to opt out of Full Value Protection, you’ll still be covered by the minimum valuation option (required by law). This provides compensation at $0.60 per pound, per item.
However, this option offers very limited protection and may leave you with significant losses. For example, if a 30 lb TV is damaged or lost, you would only receive 30 lbs × $0.60 = $18 in compensation—far below the actual value of the TV. For this reason, we strongly recommend choosing Full Value Protection for better coverage.
Increased Declaration – Full Value Protection
For added peace of mind, you can declare a higher value for your belongings than what’s included in the standard Full Value Protection. This comes with an additional charge but gives you extra coverage. You can also adjust your valuation amount anytime up until the moment we begin loading your shipment.
Claim Assist
Our Claim Assist program is here to help if you need to file a claim or have items repaired or replaced.
By choosing one of our convenience service packages, you may also have the option to add Claim Assist and other helpful services, depending on the package you select.
Pairs & Sets Waiver
Normally, Positive is not responsible for items that remain undamaged within a set. With our Pairs & Sets Waiver, if one item in a set is damaged and cannot be repaired or replaced to match the rest, we’ll waive that limitation and either replace the entire set or reimburse you for its full replacement value.
Mechanical Malfunction Waiver
Normally, Positive isn’t responsible if mechanical or electronic items stop working after a move due to road vibrations or normal moving conditions, unless there’s clear evidence of mishandling. With the Mechanical Malfunction Waiver, we’ll cover repairs or replacements for equipment that no longer works after your move.
Acts of God Waiver
Typically, Positive isn’t responsible for loss or damage caused by natural events. With the Acts of God Waiver, your belongings are covered for repair or replacement if they’re affected by a natural disaster during your move.
Additional Delay Payment
If your pickup or delivery is delayed beyond the date listed on your paperwork, you may be eligible for additional compensation of up to $250 per day.
Increased Destination Wait Time
If your belongings are not ready for delivery at the scheduled time, we can extend the included wait time at the destination for up to four hours.
